Nau mai, haere mai. Welcome.
This topic is about applying for jobs online, and why most applications never get a reply.
It takes about 20 to 30 minutes. You can stop whenever you like and come back later. The app remembers where you got to.
If you would rather listen than read, tap Listen at the top of each part.
By the end of this module you will be able to:
Understand simple tips for applying for jobs online.
Applying for jobs online can feel frustrating, especially when you send applications and hear nothing back. So how do you give yourself a better chance?
Start by understanding the job ad. Knowing what the employer is looking for helps you decide whether the role is a good fit and which skills and experience to highlight.
Then, tailor your CV and application to that job. Show how your experience connects to what they need, and make it easy for them to see what you could bring to their team.
In this module, you will learn how to read a job ad, tailor your CV and put together an application that stands out.
Three questions on what you just watched. You can go back and watch it again at any time.
3 questions to answer
A job listing says "we would like you to have 5 years experience". What does the video say that means?
That is the must have list. This one is the wish list, and they are different.
It says nothing about training. It is telling you what they hoped for.
Nothing out of date about it. Listings are written with both kinds of line in them.
Would like is a wish. Must have is the part with no debate. Knowing which is which is what stops you ruling yourself out.
The listing says "customer service". Your CV says "really good with people". What does the video tell you to do?
You know it means the same. They are reading quickly and looking for their own words.
Saying it twice reads as padding. Use their wording and move on.
It is exactly relevant. It just needs saying the way they said it.
Speak their language and they will speak yours. They are scanning for the words they wrote, not working out whether yours mean the same thing.
What does the video say about which jobs to put on your CV?
You do not need all of them. The full list buries the part they needed to see.
Most recent is not always closest. It depends what you are applying for.
How long you were somewhere matters less than how close it is to this job.
Best foot forward. The job that matters for this application goes first, and the rest can sit further down or come off.

The first application takes twenty minutes. By the fifth it takes two.
Your answers save on this device, so you can come back to them and nobody else can read them. If you use Speak your answer, your browser sends the recording to its own speech service to turn it into words. Type your answer instead if you would rather nothing left the device.
